The New THD Flexi-50 Amplifier..

The Flexi-50 is a precision, hand-built 50 watt Class-AB amplifier with a foot-switchable overdrive/boost, a foot-switchable master volume control, and a flexible design which accepts a vast array of preamp and power tube choices, in any combination, giving the user a huge pallet of sounds simply by changing tubes.  The amplifier has a fat, clear, and full clean tone reminiscent of late-'50s to early-'60s American combos, along with overdrive to rival the best British heads.  Even at the highest gain setting, the amp still demonstrates dramatic touch sensitivity, cleaning up very well with your guitar's volume control.  Additional features include external bias test points and dual bias controls, permitting the user to quickly and accurately set the bias for each individual output tube with any digital voltmeter, eliminating the need for matched power tubes.

How the Flexi-50 is different...

In the Flexi-50, THD has brought together an ideal combination of simplicity and flexibility - hence the name.  Why strive for simplicity?  Robust design and construction are among the reasons.  Ease of use is another prime reason.  The folks at THD hear every day from guitarists who have purchased 3- and 4-channel guitar amplifiers, only to discover that, despite varying gain levels, the channels all sound - and feel - more or less the same.  Yet another disadvantage of an overly complex amplifier is that it can take a long time to uncover a sound that really works for you.

The Flexi-50 is a single-channel amplifier, but one that can be switched and blended among a number of different sounding - and feeling - voices.  The unique combination of the touch-sensitive input circuit and the wonderfully active and reactive tone control section makes for a front-end that really responds to subtle (and not-so-subtle) changes in the signal coming either from your guitar or any effect that you may use.  Back off on the volume control and the amp gets much cleaner, without losing the girth of the full-volume sound.  The input is quite sensitive to the individual impedance curves and inductance characteristics of your pickups, so you will not experience the all-too-common situation where every guitar you own sounds the same through your amplifier.  Does it like pedals?  It LOVES them.

Wait, there's more...

With it's custom-tuned post-phase inverter master volume, the Flexi-50 can give you a luscious palette of overdrive sounds before you even get the output stage working, sounds that are all highly touch-sensitive as well.  Also, THD has included a foot-switchable preset boost with it's own dedicated tone control, allowing your boosted sound to be darker, brighter, or anywhere in between.

Other features include a line-level effects loop and a 50/20 watt switch, letting you drop the plate voltage on the power tubes from 475 to 325, and yielding lower output with a smoother, more even response.  There is also a series/parallel switched impedance selector that can take any cabinet from 2 ohms to 16 ohms, and always uses 100% of the transformer windings.  This assures you a full, even output sound, regardless of the impedance setting. The transformers are fully shielded to assure that hum and noise are kept to a minimum.

What this all means...

It could very well mean that the search for your sound is finally over.  If you need - or even crave - the immediacy, clarity and "punch" of a grid-biased Class-AB amplifier, with the ability to use virtually any tube you can imagine, all with the tonal flexibility to go from big and clean to thick and distorted and anywhere in between, the THD Flexi-50 may be the amp you've been waiting for.
