1930s Sound Products Aluminum Lap Steel
Just when you thought it was safe….again. An ultra-cool, pre-war lap steel guitar with an all-cast-aluminum body. I’d never seen anything quite like it, but some research, aided by my good friend, the estimable Larry Fishman, maker of the world-famous Fishman pickups, helped turn up the fact that the Sound Products Company was a very early manufacturer of guitar amplifiers, back when the electric guitar was in the very throes of it’s infancy, in the 1930s. They eventually became the Electrolab Company, makers of some pretty cool guitar amps well into the 1950s, and they started with…….this. As originally designed, their instruments were powered by and needed to be used in conjunction with their amps, as this one was. It’s still got its original pickup, which will need to be changed to a more modern piezo-type, not a huge project for some clever guitar tech-type person. it’s in original condition (who could possibly break one of these?), with original tuners, way cool original control knobs, a cheesy 1960s cable that you can keep or not, and the very coolest red star, right where you can’t fail to see it, added by parties unknown. Backplate gone, but who cares? Has the better part of its original case too. Be and have your own bright and shining star in your very own home for only $395 w/xossc as is.
