1985 Martin D-28

1985 Martin D-28

When I started selling new Martin guitars back in the 1960s, it never occurred to me to think about any of them coming back to me ten, twenty, thirty years or more later. And here I am, with a Martin D-28 that I sold new almost forty years ago, in 1985. Who knew? The call recently came in from the person who had bought it back then, telling me that in the intervening years he’d gotten married, raised a family, done all those things that one does with one’s life and it was now time for this Martin to find its next home. He loved it, he played it, and he cared for it beautifully. Not a single issue anywhere. Never needed any repairs, barely a scratch on it, looks almost brand-new but still has just enough of that “aged” look, and that big clear sound, that only time can bring. These are things that cannot be faked. There is virtually no fret wear and I have personally adjusted it to compensate for the small effects that time may have upon an acoustic guitar’s action, brought it right up to spec. In short, you could hardly wish for more, and rarely find it this nice. The original Martin “Care and Feeding” booklet, serial-numbered to the guitar, is still with it and its original Martin hard shell case is in as great condition as the guitar. All this for less than the cost of a new one at only $2795 w/ohsc
