1968 Gibson J-160E

1968 Gibson J-160E

The original real deal, a gen-you-wine Gibson J-160e from the 1960s, same kind that got John Lennon that great sound on all those early Beatles records. Gibson was way ahead of the pack with these, figured out early on that straight bracing combined with a laminated spruce top would take care of feedback nicely and boy, did they ever nail it. Ain’t nothing can quite compare with an original one of these, got fifty-plus years of experience on it, worked in right. Action and playability all just gone over by us right here in our own shop; frets nice and smooth, plays as great as can be. All thoroughly gone over inside and out too, a 100%-plus true vintage Gibson. And that original P-90 pickup, dang! Just cannot match that anywhere else, no way. This Gibson J-160e has just enough in the department of playing wear to let you know it’s been around, played plenty of gigs, and was greatly treasured; two minor back cracks is all, very professionally taken care of long ago. Story for you: Sean Lennon came into my store one day years ago, saw one of these in with our other nicer acoustics, said “Um, is that the kind my Dad played?”  “Yep”  “I’m playing Carnegie Hall tonight. I’ll take it”. You can’t make this stuff up. This one comes with a very modern super-duper hard shell case, got all kindsa TSA numbers on it. You never know.  $2995 w/hsc
