A beautiful set of tuning machines from the people in France who supplied Martin Guitar with so many in the mid-late 19th century, Jerome. This entire peghead, with its original tuners, is from a a guitar of unknown origin, no idea who the maker was. The peghead was made as a separate piece and attached to the neck with dowels, a European tradition that Martin also continued with a  version of until about 1910-15. It came to me as is from someone who told me that the rest of the guitar had been totally destroyed. It appears that the machines have never been removed from the peghead; the mounting screw slots are essentially unmolested. Spacing on center from gears 1-3 and 4-6 is 68mm, or 2-11/16”. The buttons are of solid bone. There is some play in the gears, expected after a hundred and fifty years, and they are quite usable. A rare find for a restoration project or for building a replica of the earlier “parlor” guitars. $495
