Martin 00-28C 1968

This is as fine an example of a Brazilian rosewood 1960s Martin nylon-string guitar as can be found, and it's a very rare model too, from 1968. Martin (and everyone else) was starting to run out of Brazilian rosewood in the mid-1960s and what was available at that time was as far from the quality they had been demanding for over 130 years as can be imagined. The grain on mid-60s Brazilian was swirly all over the place as opposed to their ultra-high standards of very straight grain only forever, but it was all that was available. Right near the end though, from early in 1968 until late 1969, when Brazilian was just plain over for good, they somehow got some extra-fine 1930s-40s grade sets and that is what is on this guitar. It’s about the nicest 00-28C I've ever seen and I’m in love. The body is Grand Concert size as first brought out by Martin in the 1870s, with traditional fan bracing of the top for that true classical tone. Longer 25.4” Martin scale length and 1-15/16” nut width combined with that wonderful Martin-only neck contour gives this guitar the comfiest feel. All original, all there, original Waverly tuning machines and that beautiful nitrocellulose lacquer Martin finish. There was one very minor crack in the back that we took care of that is going to take one heck of a lot of searching to find and that's it, except for getting the action adjusted to our own high standards.
