Dick Boak, as many of you already know, was a major influence at the Martin Guitar Co. for over forty years, retiring just a few years ago. Dick was responsible for, among other things, creating and running Martin's artist relations program and working with so many world-famous musicians to create their own special signature models of Martin guitars. Eric Clapton, Johnny Cash, Pete Seeger, Willie Nelson, Lonnie Donegan, John Mayer; the list goes on and on. Dick was also the official company historian, collating the massive amount of materials Martin had stored over their entire history since 1833 and creating the Martin Museum to display them in. This Martin D-Boak model guitar is a special tribute to Dick his own self. The entire front is decorated with graphics that Dick, who is a terrific artist as well, drew. The famous Martin top bracing pattern is drawn on it, and a wonderful rendering of the brick building Martin made all of their guitars in from 1859 to 1964 is writ large and in great detail too. Dick even, in a “Where’s Waldo?” moment, put a little drawing of himself peeking through one of the factory windows. This instrument is a true Martin guitar all the way with solid mahogany back, sides, and neck and a solid spruce top. It was built right in the Martin factory in Nazareth, PA, and plays beautifully. There were only eighty-five of these made; this one is #23, hand-written on the label. And something else very very special: Dick personally autographed this guitar on its back with “Carl…. Thank your for your friendship and great support for folk music over the decades” and it is one of only a very few that he autographed. $1995 w/ohsc
