After having become a Martin dealer in 1969, I started noticing a slight change in construction of their guitars in the early 1970s, definitely for the better. Hard to put my finger on it but we would get in maybe five or six new Martins a week, I’d open the cartons, look over the guitars and play them and think "Wow! How great is THIS guitar going to be in twenty-five years?” Well it's now fifty years and I’m always thrilled to get a really nice Martin from that time period. And this 1972 Martin D-18 is no exception; it's terrific. In looking it over I can tell that at some point in its life it's been back to the Martin factory for a neck reset, a refret, and an additional coat of lacquer applied overall. The Martin people’s work is like handwriting, very distinctive for those of us who know it well and I will stake my reputation on all this work having been done by them and beautifully so. It is, in a word, a perfect older Martin D-18 and for many, better than perfect. Its action is noticeably easier than the usual Martin dreadnaught's with the string height set lower than "factory standard", and you can feel it the instant you pick the guitar up. It’s not for the hard-playing bluegrass folks but what a breeze to play! For all you fingerpickers out there who wished you could find a larger Martin that was just plain comfy, you've found it now. Better yet, it's never had any cracks nor anything like it, still as 100% solid as the day it was made in 1972. A most endearing Martin. Comes with a nice hard shell case too. A true bargain at only $1995 w/hsc.

Returns

All purchases made from this website - as well as any made via phone orders - are granted a 24-hour approval period. If you decide not to keep the merchandise you may ship it back to us in the original carton with all accompanying packaging and paperwork. The customer is responsible for all shipping costs. When we receive the item back in its original condition, we will refund the entire amount of the purchase less original shipping cost outbound.
