Vega Cylinder-Back Mandolin 1920s
Vega Cylinder-Back Mandolin 1920s
Simply gorgeous, and unique in the world of American mandolins. The so-called “cylinder back” name comes from the contour of its carved, solid flamed-maple back. There is nothing else like it in the mandolin world anywhere and its wonderful volume and extremely clear tones are superb. Heart-of-ablone shell trim around the edge of the top and in the soundhole rosette, just as in top-of-the-line Martin guitars of its day, plus a stunning mother-of-pearl flower pickguard inlay. 100% original condition with nary a repair ever needed and no "unauthorized entry” ever perpetrated on it. Low, fast action too. The complete package in a top-flight, rare, "Presentation Model” mandolin made by the esteemed Vega Company of Boston, MA between 1913 and about 1925. Included is its original hard shell case. $1795 w/ohsc
