1980s ESP MK-VI Fathead

1980s ESP MK-VI Fathead

Wow! An all red-and-black ESP Strat-style guitar; what could be cooler than that? The ESP instruments from the 1980s were of extremely high quality, as they are today, and this one certainly stands out. With its fire-engine-red body and its all-black neck and all-black hardware, it’s a high-tone stunner. Humbucker at the bridge, single-coil pickup at the neck, and wonderfully straightforward controls; you can rip right through any kind of music you like. In fab condition, literally no fret wear, looks like it was put away for posterity shortly after day one. And it's got one of the simplest, most brilliant electric guitar innovations I’ve ever seen, the Fathead plate mounted on the back of the peghead. It worked by the simple means of adding mass to the end of neck, ostensibly giving more sustain (you physics whizzes out there will understand) and while sustain itself could not be immediately discerned, the Fathead certainly gave guitars an extra “something”, no doubt about it. Sadly no longer made, I asked the ESP people if they had ever offered Fathead as an accessory and they said Nope, must been custom-made. So…..treat yourself to a really hot acquisition, add a super-high-quality guitar that no one else has to your arsenal. Comes with a hard shell case from I don’t know where, has someone’s band name painted on it. A super-hot deal at only $795 w/hsc
