Gibson ES-175 Charlie Christian 1979

This is one hot, rare, unique version of Gibson’s oh-so-cool ES-175, the original of which has been copied by many but equalled by none. This version is pretty darn rare, is in a world of its own for tones and volume that can be found nowhere else. The unique pickup is of the design of the one in Charlie Christian's guitar, Christian being that wonderful, iconic jazz guitarist of the 1930s. This pickup was originally designed for a Gibson lap steel and worked its way into the ES-150 of the day, and is an extreme rarity right there. Gibson elected to make a version of their ES-175 with this pickup in the late 1970s and here we are with a terrific example. Gone over 100% right here in our shop, it plays like a dream, smooth and fast all the way. At some unknown time in its past the truss rod was replaced with a more modern design, adjustable with an Alien wrench, and it works beautifully. Took a lot of squinting on my part to determine that there's an additional coat of lacquer overall, looks like a million bucks. This Gibson is ready to swing and on into the night.
