1969, the not-quite-summer-of-love but close enough to it and, surprisingly, leading to Martin's having some of the best Brazilian rosewood they had had in over a decade. And then it was over. No more Brazilian rosewood guitars from Martin, and they had no custom shop or anything like it back then. So here it is, one heck of a so traditional Martin D-28 with all the best stuff and it's as solid as the day is long. One extra coat of lacquer on the body, took me some time to prove it, looks fabulous and I’ll stake my reputation on its being factory done; small reinforcement of its original Brazilian rosewood bridge plate, by us. Now here’s something different about it that’s unique: it has a new Martin factory neck, put on by Martin over thirty years ago and here’s how I know; the entire neck is clean as a whistle with perfect frets, absolutely no wear, and its finish is about dead-perfect too but wait, there’s more! This neck has an adjustable Martin truss rod, which did not exist in the 1960s and they re-used its original American-made Grover Rotomatic tuning machines, love it. I just reached out to one of my long-time contacts at Martin who tells me that their records show it was back at the factory in 1994 though the records do not say why. The perfect extra coat of finish on the body, combined with Martin's ever-perfect neck fit, are the giveaways here, and I'm so happy about it.
