One of the last Brazilian rosewood D-35’s from Martin, and amongst their very best. Martin had always insisted on straight-grained woods only and by the mid-1960s that was getting tough to find in Brazilian rosewood and it shows on many D-28’s from then. Interestingly, by 1968-69 they came across a bit of much nicer stuff and that shows clearly in this 1969 D-35. The sides and outer panels of the back are of strikingly straight-grained Brazilian, with a contrasting back center panel. The action is superb and has never needed any major work done. No neck reset now or ever, no bridge cutting, no nuthin’, and both nut and saddle are original. A few nicks and dings here and there from years of playing just about describe all the cosmetics. It was lovingly played by its original owner and brought to me by his family after he passed away to find a new, loving home for it. The pickguard needed replacement, as on so many Martins from the late-'60s to early-'80s, and we did a perfect job of it here in our own shop along with one teeny crack from traditional pickguard shrinkage at its edge, now invisible. Playability nice and smooth with a low and easy action, rarely if ever found in any Dreadnaught. Has a more recent Martin molded hard shell case. Bottom line, a true keeper. $6995 w/hsc
