Sting! His own self! This is a very rare Martin guitar from their specially-built Signature Series. Only 100 of these “Sting Mini” guitars were produced, to Sting's spec. It is based on the original Martin Size 5, an early design and the smallest they ever made, called “Terz” for the German word “third", originally intended to be tuned a minor third higher than standard. I’ve got this one tuned standard E-E but included is an instruction sheet of many alternate tunings from Dick Boak, the person at Martin who put together all of their Signature Series instruments and who worked directly with Sting on this one. The back and sides are of genuine mahogany, the top of the finest Sitka spruce, and the fingerboard and bridge are of rosewood, a classic combination. The soundhole rosette has a “45-style” abalone shell center ring; the top purfling is of the famous pre-war “herringbone” wood marquetry with the back center strip in matching zig-zag” pattern. Sting’s signature is inlaid in script mother-of-pearl at the last fret of the fingerboard. Perhaps best of all, the interior label, signifying that this is guitar number 51 of 100 made, has been signed by Sting himself and by CF Martin IV, head of the Martin company. This guitar came to me from its original owner, who put it away for posterity as soon as he got it and did not play it. It is in near-mint condition. Original serial-numbered Martin hang tag is included along with original very best-grade hard shell case. $6995 w/ohsc
